Babywearing Help

Babywearing can be an invaluable tool in early parenting and can help you conveniently(!) meet your baby's needs while attending to your own.

babywearing 101: Choosing & Using the Best carrier for you

Choosing a carrier can be overwhelming! You’ll leave this class confident in which carrier is right for you and with the knowledge you need to begin learning to use it. In this class we'll cover: babywearing benefits, newborn safety, positioning, and comfort (for baby and you!). We'll demonstrate each of the major types of carriers, and discuss pros/cons so that you can choose the best carrier(s) for you, with plenty of time for questions. This class is ideal for prenatal folks (babywearing is one of the few early parenting tools you can easily practice prenatally!), but can also be great for postpartum families if you haven’t chosen a carrier yet, if you have been gifted one that you don’t know too much about, if you are looking to get a new one, or you just aren’t sure of best-practices for babywearing.

1:1 Babywearing Help

One-on-one help can make a huge difference in learning to use your carrier confidently, (and without hours of googling, practicing in front of the mirror and still wondering whether it’s quite right!). In a 1:1 appointment we can tackle any of the following: helping you use a carrier you already have in a way that supports your body and your baby’s body comfortably and safely, adjusting the fit/carry-style for a carrier that you used to love but is no longer meeting your needs, moving from front-carrying to side- or back-carrying when you’re ready, or working on how to breast/bodyfeed in your carrier.

Babywearing Groups

Rocky start to wearing? Feeling good but just want a thumbs up? Been wearing but suddenly feeling uncomfortable? Just want to meet some other babywearing parents? Or get answers to your 102-level questions like: wearing in hot/cold weather, how to transfer a sleeping baby out of the carrier without waking, or how to re-position/re-tighten without taking baby out? In this small-group setting we'll demo a carry at the start, you can then wrap your baby (or a weighted doll if your baby isn’t here yet), and then we'll troubleshoot for safety/comfort/ease together.

Please only plan to wrap/carry during group if you have:

  • a familiarity with babywearing safety principles (e.g. you’ve taken Babywearing 101 with us, or reviewed BCIA Safety Guidelines and feel like you know what to look for)

  • a familiarity with how to use of your wrap/carrier (e.g. you’ve watched some videos for how to use it, or read the manual)

  • have used it AT LEAST 3 times prior, even if you ran into some questions or fit issues

If that doesn’t yet describe you, you’re still welcome to come to these groups to watch/observe and get tips, but please don’t rush yourself and your baby to be ready. You might also scroll up, Babywearing 101 is a helpful prereq, or book a private consult for dedicated 1:1 help first.
