We offer a wide range of free and low-cost classes for expectant, new and experienced mothers of newborns to toddlers. Our classes are taught by our IBCLCs or instructors that are highly qualified in their respective fields. Please register through our calendar! All of the classes described below can be taught privately one-on-one or for a small group by one of our IBCLCs or instructors.

Classes for Expectant Parents

Breastfeeding Basics

Join us the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 11:30am-1:00pm for Breastfeeding Basics!

This class teaches the basic anatomy and physiology involved in breast milk production and breastfeeding. Mothers will also learn what to expect during the first days after birth, as well as what to do if things do not go as planned. Class will discuss what preparation and supplies are helpful. Think of this as Part I of our must-take prenatal classes. This class is intended for expectant parents or as a refresher for experienced parents.  We recommend taking this class 8 weeks before your due date. The instructor is one of our experienced IBCLCs.

Breast Pump Basics

Join us the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month from 11:30am-12:45pm for our Breast Pump Basics Class!

Class will go over breast pump information, as well as breast pump demonstrations. Mothers will also receive instruction on pumping strategies. In addition, pump demonstrations will be shown and mothers will also receive instruction on pumping strategies for the early weeks. This class lays the foundation for our Return to Work class (recommended to take a few weeks before returning to work). Think of this as Part II of our must-take prenatal classes. It is also very helpful to take again before returning to work, as a refresher. This class is intended to be taken after our Breastfeeding Basics Class and is taught by one of our experienced IBCLCs.

Breastfeeding and Pumping Basics

Join us on the first Wednesday of the Month and the fourth Monday of the month at the Breastfeeding Center from 6:00-8:00pm for our Breastfeeding and Pumping Basics Class!

Breastfeeding and Pumping Basics is the perfect class for working moms and dads-to-be who can’t make our Breastfeeding Basics and Breastpump Basics classes during the workday. This special class is offered at a convenient time for working families and combines the need-to-know information from both of these classes.

This class teaches the basic anatomy and physiology involved in breast milk production and breastfeeding and also the basic information for choosing and then using a breast pump. Mothers will learn what to expect during the first days after birth, as well as what to do if things do not go as planned. Class will discuss what preparation and supplies are helpful. In addition, pump demonstrations will be shown and mothers will also receive instruction on pumping strategies for the early weeks.

The instructor is one of our experienced IBCLCs. Payment is required in advance for class registration; cost is $60 per person and $70 per couple. Private classes are also available in our office, your office, or your home.

Breastfeeding for Fathers and Partners

Join us the 3rd Saturday of every month from 10:00-11:30am for our Breastfeeding for Fathers and Partners Class!

This much loved class reviews the basics of breastfeeding and discusses how to support the breastfeeding mother. Questions are encouraged! No mothers allowed! This class is intended for fathers, partners and other support persons of the breastfeeding mother. This is an instructor led class where discussion and questions are invited. The instructor is one of our experienced IBCLCs.

Expectant Parents’ Sampler Workshop

Join us on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 12:30-3:30pm for our Expectant Parents’ Sampler Class!

This course covers need-to-know information included in our Breastfeeding Basics, Breast Pump Basics, and Baby Care Basics classes.

The basic anatomy and physiology involved in breast milk production and breastfeeding will be explained, along with what to expect during the first days after birth and what to do if things do not go as planned. You will also receive instruction on the different types of breast pumps, as well as breast pump demonstrations.

This class also provides an overview of everything you need to know about caring for your infant. We will cover normal newborn appearances, bathing, diapering, soothing techniques and how to read your baby’s cues. In addition, you will learn about the importance of sleep (for both parents and baby!) and strategies to improve your baby’s daytime and nighttime sleep. Our hope is that with this class we can help dispel myths about sleep and help you and your family get adequate, safe sleep. The instructor is one of our lactation consultants.

This workshop is intended for new and expectant parents with limited time and/or are unable to make some of our other classes. 10% OFF ANY purchases after class!

Baby Care Basics

This class provides an overview of everything you need to know about caring for your infant. We will cover normal newborn appearances, bathing, diapering, soothing techniques and how to read your baby’s cues. We also will discuss the science behind sleep and the implications it has on the breastfeeding relationship, in addition to addressing common obstacles to getting enough sleep and how to solve them. This is a great class to take before your baby comes so you know what to expect in the early weeks of your baby’s life.

The instructor is one of our experienced IBCLCs. This class costs $60 per person and $70 per couple. Private classes are also available in our office, your office, or your home.

 Cloth Diapering Basics

Join us the 4th Monday of every other month from 11:30am-1:00pm for our Cloth Diapering Basics Class!

Cloth diapering couldn’t be easier these days. No more pins, plastic pants or toilet dunking. Just easy to use, easy to wash, cute reusable diapers. The only hard part is navigating the different brands, styles and reviews to choose which style is best for you and your baby! Attend this fun and interactive class with cloth diapering expert, Hannah. In this class you will:

  • Learn how using cloth diapers can benefit your baby and your planet at the same time
  • Look, touch, and try out all of the most common brands and styles
  • Get expert help in deciding which style of diaper is best for you
  • Compare the cost of cloth versus disposable diapers
  • Discuss the common questions and concerns with each style of cloth diaper

 Prenatal Babywearing 101

Join us on the third Saturday of the month for our Prenatal Babywearing 101 class!

This class is geared toward mothers- and fathers-to-be.

What are the benefits of babywearing? What options are there? What’s best for me and my baby?

Learn the basics of babywearing in our Babywearing Workshop! Join us as we cover the advantages of babywearing, safety, and the how-tos of babywearing before your baby arrives.   In this hands-on class, you will be able to try on a multitude of different carriers, wraps, and slings to see which one makes the most sense for your family. Class also demonstrates how to safely and properly use slings or carriers. Breastfeeding while wearing the sling or carrier is also covered.

Laci is a postpartum doula (DONA) and certified babywearing educator trained with the Center for Babywearing Studies. Laci discovered babywearing while pregnant and has been wearing her son since his birth. She is passionate about working with new families and empowering them to make the best choices for their family. Laci currently resides in Alexandria, VA with her husband and son. When she’s not working, she enjoys being with her family, reading, and exploring antique stores.

Doula Meet and Greet

Join us the 2nd Monday of each month from 6:00-7:00pm for our Doula Meet and Greet!

Expected parents are encouraged to attend our monthly Doula Meet and Greet to learn about supported birth and interact with local labor and delivery doulas. This meet and greet session is intended for interested families to research your birth options, and maybe even meet a doula that you would like to work with!

Prenatal Yoga

Join us on Wednesdays from 9:45-11:00am for Prenatal Yoga!

Classes are designed and sequenced to help alleviate common discomforts in pregnancy and to prepare moms for labor and early motherhood.  This class will modify poses for all stages of pregnancy. Strengthen the body, calm the mind and prepare physically and mentally for childbirth. Your Prenatal Yoga practice includes:

  • Asana (postures)
  • Breathwork
  • Meditation

Classes are taught by a certified yoga instructor. Payment is required in advance for class registration; $54/3-class series, $20/drop-in class.

Infant and Child CPR 

Join us on the 1st Saturday of the month from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm or 1:30-3:30pm and the 3rd Saturday of each month from 12:30-2:30pm or 3:00-5:00pm for Infant and Child CPR!

It takes two hours of your time to learn skills that could save your child’s life. During this class you will learn infant and child CPR, AED, and what to do if your child is choking. These are skills anyone caring for an infant or child should have to ensure their safety. This is the perfect class for parents and expectant parents. It’s also a great class for your nanny, babysitter, or family member who might be caring for your child if you are returning to work.

This class is for adults only. The cost is $65 per person.
