WBW: Postpartum Health from a Chinese Medicine Perspective

The postpartum period, an often neglected field in modern perinatal care, is of immense importance in the Chinese medical tradition. Chinese medicine’s deep understanding of the concerns of the postnatal period as well as its solutions to these concerns provides a much needed resource for modern times. In this class you will learn practical information on how to best prepare for the postnatal period, coming away with recipes and resources to help with postpartum concerns such as retained lochia, breastmilk production, constipation, and postpartum depression.

Seth Shamon L.Ac. Dip.Lac. is a licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist who specializes in perinatal care using acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and dietary therapy. Seth’s interest in perinatal care came when he was working at a high volume acupuncture clinic and saw the immense need for acupuncture and herbs during pregnancy and postpartum. He has studied Chinese medical perinatal care with Debra Betts and Sharon Weizenbaum, two of the leaders in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Seth practices at The Well, an integrative wellness center in Mount Pleasant, DC that specializes in perinatal care. Their perinatal & postpartum services include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, massage, and psychotherapy.
