Open Position – Full-Time Lactation Consultant

The Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington is hiring a full-time, experienced outpatient IBCLC with a positive outlook and passion for the profession. As a leader in lactation education and promotion, the mission of the Breastfeeding Center of Greater Washington is to advance breastfeeding and successful parenting throughout the DC metro area by providing free and low cost professional instruction to families in a supportive community space.

As each family we serve are individuals, this position requires the ability of the candidate to meet each client where they are, to assist them in defining their own breastfeeding goals, and helping them meet those goals in a nonjudgmental, nurturing, and accepting manner. The lactation consultant must also be committed to the mission of the Breastfeeding Center as a whole, and to training and guiding IBCLCs-in-training as the Breastfeeding Center strives to create more equitable access to mentorships. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Current certification as an IBCLC
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in hospital and/or outpatient settings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and sharp attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask, and flexibility to take on new responsibilities and tasks as needed
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse team of coworkers and clients

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • RN or other state-license preferred
  • Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare or public health field preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Experience in curriculum development for lactation care providers

The Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington is hiring a full-time Shop and Administrative Assistant. As a leader in lactation education and promotion, the mission of the Breastfeeding Center of Greater Washington is to advance breastfeeding and successful parenting throughout the DC metro area by providing free and low cost professional instruction to families in a supportive community space. If you are knowledgable about pregnancy/birth/postpartum, meticulous in your work, and passionate about customer service, this might be the perfect position for you!

Job purpose

Responsible for providing excellent customer service to The Center’s clients. This includes overseeing day to day functioning of the shop and taking ownership over all things customer service.

Duties and responsibilities

Our Shop and Administrative Assistants are expected to provide excellent customer service to our clients. This includes everything from answering questions (in person, over the phone, via email, etc) to doing bra fittings to scheduling appointments. Our clients are your number one priority at all times! To thrive in this position, you must be passionate and knowledgable about working with people in the transitional time of pregnancy and postpartum. We are also a small staff, so it’s imperative that you love working with a close-knit team and can balance professionalism and friendliness in a very busy, sometimes stressful, environment. This position also offers you the opportunity to create real growth – for both yourself and the organization. Someone excited about changing the way people are cared for postpartum is the person we’re looking to grow with!

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in breastfeeding and/or women’s health issues
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in an administrative role
  • Strong organizational skills and sharp attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask, and flexibility to take on new responsibilities and tasks as needed
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse group

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified birth and/or postpartum doula, or similar experience
  • Management experience
  • Retail experience
