These services are all offered by our nonprofit educational arm, Breastfeeding Outreach for Greater Washington.
We aim to support all mothers who wish to breastfeed, no matter their financial situation. Mothers who are on WIC are eligible to receive 1 free lactation consultation. Call 202-293-5182 for more information and to schedule your consultation.
Sliding Scale Consultations
We realize that not all mothers who wish to breastfeed have insurance and/or are able to pay out of pocket. We offer reduced fees for lactation consultations based on a sliding scale. Call 202-293-5182 for more information and to schedule your consultation.
If the cost of a consultation is a burden to you and your family, please take advantage of our volunteer-for-consultation option. We ask for two hours of volunteer work in exchange for a private consultation with one of our IBCLCs. Call for more information and to schedule your consultation.
We function as a Milk Depot for the Mother’s Milk Bank at Austin. Mothers who would like to donate will need to contact Mother’s Milk Bank at Austin by calling 512-494-0800. Mothers will be told how be to get screened (at no cost to the mom!). Once screening is complete, they will receive a ID number and will be able to conveniently drop off their milk donations at our shop. We’ve had the pleasure of being one of the most active new depots and are so very thankful to all of our mothers who have participated and continue to participate! *Please call before dropping off your milk*
Grant Breast Pump Rental
We are able to offer 1 free grant pump at a time for mothers who are on WIC. Call for more information and availability.
We offer a wide range of free and low-cost classes for expectant, new and experienced mothers of newborns to toddlers. Our classes are taught by our IBCLCs or instructors that are highly qualified in their respective fields.
We work with other community organizations (such as A Wider Circle) to offer our free professional breastfeeding classes to underserved populations in their neighborhoods. If you know of an organization that may be interested in partnering with the Center, please email Gina at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Personal Breast Pump Donations
We want to make sure that every mother who needs a personal breast pump is able to get one at no cost to her. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, most insurance plans do cover a double electric breast pump at 100%.
If you have received a breast pump from your insurance company that you haven’t used and will not need, you can donate it here at the Center. At your discretion, we will either donate your pump to a mother who needs it or sell the pump at a discount and use the proceeds to support our free classes and consultations. For more information, or to request a donated pump, please email Gina at email@example.com.
