Class instructor (IN-PERSON only)

Do you love helping families grow and thrive? Are you looking to advance your skills while at the same time being part of a dynamic, collaborative team? Do you value being part of a well respected and established organization that supports the local community? As we grow and evolve, our vision for The Center is to build a staff that reflects the diverse city in which we’re located. We’d like to welcome team members with a variety of life experiences and identities so that we can be sure we are effectively and competently serving anyone and everyone who needs our services, including folks of color, folks of all genders, family structures, and faiths (or lack thereof). If this resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you!

We are looking for perinatal professionals from various backgrounds with diverse experiences and identities to join our team as class instructors. As a leader in lactation education and promotion, the mission of the Breastfeeding Center of Greater Washington is to advance breastfeeding and successful parenting throughout the DC metro area by providing free and low cost professional instruction to families in a supportive community space. Our staff supports families from pregnancy through transitions of early parenthood with relationship-based care, evidence-based instruction and resources, and integrative health services for lactation and the perinatal time period.

The ideal candidate is someone who is nonjudgmental and totally dedicated to giving families information and tools to make the best decisions for their families. The clientele is diverse in many ways, so meeting people where they are and leaving your own biases at the door is a must. As we continue to work in the space of group classes, we’ve identified the need for more targeted classes that speak to particular identities, experiences, and unique obstacles. Whether you already have a class developed or if it’s still just an idea waiting to come to fruition, we’d love to hear from you.

Qualifications:

  • Certified as a perinatal professional of some sort (IBCLC, doula, physician, newborn specialist, etc.)

  • Experience teaching to a group

  • Experience with virtual platforms such as Zoom

  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse group

This opportunity offers you:

  • Competitive pay

  • Flexible schedule

  • Collaborative and supportive work environment

  • Connection with DC area expectant and new parents

These positions are open on a rolling basis.
