Everything you need to know before your In-office appointment

We can’t wait to see you in-person!

Metro

  • Our closest metro stations are: Farragut North (Red), or Farragut West (Blue/Orange), both are within 2 blocks.

Parking

  • November 2022: there’s currently quite a bit of construction on our street and nearby streets, so please leave at least an extra 20-30 minutes to navigate construction and parking.

  • You’re always welcome to pull up and put your flashers on to drop off passengers & baby.

  • For street parking we suggest checking both sides of K Street, and downloading the Park Mobile app if you don’t already have it. This will allow you to renew your parking easily if you need to stay a little longer than expected.

  • For garages, there is one directly across from The Center on 19th Street, or there are several on L Street.

  • Unfortunately we’re unable to validate parking for any nearby garages.

ELECTRONIC PAPERWORK

  • If this is your first appointment, or first appointment with THIS baby, please complete your Intake Forms by end of day prior to your appointment so that you can use your entire consult time to address breastfeeding, rather than to complete paperwork. Any forms not on file by midnight the night before a scheduled appointment may need to be completed again when you arrive for your appointment.

  • Please also keep an eye out for an additional Health Screening Questionnaire that will be emailed to you 24 hours before your appointment. This form cannot be completed sooner than this because health information must be timely. This form is critical to keeping our community safe, so any appointments missing this form may be canceled at 9am the day-of.

OUR PRECAUTIONS FOR IN-PERSON CARE

  • Masks/Gloves: All staff and clients will be required to wear masks at all times while in The Center or in a client's home. If a client (or their support person) does not have a mask, masks will be available for purchase. In-person consultations will not be conducted if all adults present are not masked. Staff will be required to wear gloves when clinically necessary. Frequent hand washing or hand sanitizer use is encouraged for all.

  • Cleaning: We have escalated our cleaning policies to reflect guidance from the CDC on cleaning clinical spaces and high-touch surfaces. Our staff has an extensive checklist for both daily cleaning and cleaning between clients. In addition, we have a cleaning crew coming through every night to clean our space in accordance with CDC guidelines.

  • Health Screening: All persons (staff and clients) entering The Center (or doing an in-home visit) will be required to pass a health screening (this form will be emailed to you 24 hours before your appointment because it needs to be timely information).

  • Vaccination: All of our in-person staff are fully vaccinated. If you have questions about vaccination and pregnancy or breastfeeding, please speak with your IBCLC.

Insurance coverage - what to expect

We are currently in-network with almost all plans under Aetna, BCBS, and United. If your primary insurance coverage is through any of those companies, you can expect that The Breastfeeding Center will submit the insurance claim to your insurance company for you. You will only hear from us about payment if a patient responsibility is determined by your insurer.

If your primary insurance coverage is through any other insurance company, you will be charged for the consultation within 30 days using the credit card you put on file when creating your appointment. You will also be emailed a superbill which you can fill out and submit to your insurance company to attempt reimbursement.

what happens after your appointment

Shortly after your appointment, you will be notified via email that your visit notes have been added to your patient portal. You can log on at any time to review notes and past appointments, and to schedule additional appointments.

If your baby is 6 weeks or under, we recommend scheduling a follow up appointment for about a week after your first appointment, unless your lactation consultant has recommended otherwise. Meeting with a lactation consultant early (and checking in regularly) will be the best way to ensure a successful breastfeeding relationship - whatever that means to you and your family! Also know that our lactation consultants are well-versed in any and all concerns related to nursing - from latch and nipple pain to clogged ducts to pumping to elimination diets to weaning, and everything in between. We’re here to help you throughout your nursing/pumping journey!

We also recommend taking advantage of the other services we offer here at The Center, including:

  • Group classes: We offer classes ranging from childbirth prep through toddlerhood, and many are covered by insurance. You can see our full listing and register for classes here.

  • Support groups: Our support groups - whether for nursing or for mental health - are great for meeting other parents who are sharing some of the same experiences as you and your family, as well as to get support from the professionals leading the groups. All our support groups are free.

  • Hospital-grade pump & scale rentals: We always have hospital-grade pumps and scales available to rent. You can find more information here.

  • Breastfeeding/pumping boutique: Our shop is stocked with nursing/pumping essentials, as well as fun baby shower gifts. You can order online and choose shipping or same-day pick up!

  • Breastmilk depot: We accept donations of breastmilk through the Milk Bank at Austin. We also dispense donor milk through the same Milk Bank. You can learn about becoming a donor or a recipient here.

  • Workplace support: Our staff can work directly with your HR department to ensure your employer is in compliance with all state and federal laws around nursing/pumping, as well as helping set up a lactation program at your workplace. Click here for more information.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to reach out!
