About Us
MISSION
As a leader in lactation education and promotion, our mission is to advance breastfeeding and successful parenting throughout the DC metro area by providing free and low cost professional instruction to families in a supportive community space.
VISION
We envision a world in which every DC area parent feels supported, nurtured and empowered during their pregnancy and their postpartum period with access to evidence-based information and high quality professional services to meet their and their baby's needs.

Evidence-based
All information clients receive from the Breastfeeding Center and its staff is researched and evidence-based.

We support people in whatever way they need in order to help them make the decisions they deem best for their families and to meet their goals.

We help parents to identify their vision of a healthy, thriving family and supporting them to eliminate or overcome the barriers to enacting that vision.

Equal Accessibility
The care that we offer must be accessible and relevant to all, regardless of: race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, immigration status, partnership status, income, ability, etc. In order to serve our community better, our staff--and the lactation field more broadly--must begin to represent the diversity of the people we serve. The Center will work collaboratively with other organizations in the lactation field to make training, educational opportunities, and employment more accessible to underrepresented groups.
